Year 6

An Example of a Year 6 Garage Band Reflection

I like GarageBand and sometimes just for fun I make random songs. In this song though I used a few different instruments. I used for my main beat a Live Rock Kit with a beat I made myself. I also used piano and a hi hat to start off my song. From there I used a jazz guitar to kinda set the mood. For my melody in the chorus I used a jazz Flute and moulded my words into that. After the chorus finished for the first time I used a few drum parts to create a rap kinda beat on hip hop drums. After that the chorus went over then it faded out with different instruments stopping at different times.

My song ended up being longer than I expected at about 1:40 because I just kept thinking of new things to put in.

My chorus was always the same but my rap changed around a lot because I was trying to find the perfect beat to go with my lyrics and my style. I feel that my lyrics fitted my song quite well because it follows the tune of my music.

I ended up with seven tracks but some only had small parts in my song like the hihat in the beginning just to start a beat and then the piano round. But every track I think came down to help make my song what I wanted it to be. There is no climax or resolution in my song because I just made it about what orcas are and I just named this orca 'Jim' because it fitted the other words and rhymed well.

As I said at the beginning of this reflection, I have already used GarageBand heaps of times and I have like 40 songs on it so I already am quite comfortable with the different pre recorded music and the instruments to play your own. I think I have quite a good sense of beat and melody and just music in itself. I was able to matches the tracks up to each other just by playing it, changing it and playing it again. All up I think that creating the actual music was quite easy but still fun to work with.

I am a bit self conscious and that with show in my chorus because I struggle with singing high notes and I don't like singing in front of people. So I found it hard to record at school because of that and because of the background noise. So I ended up just recording it all at home. Matching it up to my music was harder than I thought it would be, because it was quite hard trying to get the timing right and sing at e high points. The rap, however, was really simple to record and that only took one go for each line.

I really enjoyed this task and I hope we do more of these kinda things as the year commences.
